Cab Franc could well be a signature grape for the southern Okanagan. Fragrant violet aromas lure while ripe black fruit flavours impress. Polished tannins elegantly frame the rich, full-bodied palate. Spicy dried herbs resonate on the long, warm finish. Pair with pork tenderloin and roasted root vegetables.
Torres’ flagship Cabernet is a polished offering with waves of cassis, plum, olive, mint, smoky herbs and vanilla. There is depth, refined tannins and a long lasting impression. Roast leg of lamb is a sublime pairing with this beauty!
This is a dead ringer for a top-end Rheingau Riesling Kabinett. Peach, honey, petrol, lime, mineral and hints of tropical fruit are all in play. There is crisp acidity, some residual sugar and a long finale. Drink until 2020.
Pale yellow, small CO2 bubbles. Minerally nose, peach/pear with floral notes. You first feel the delicate acidity, but it has more weight in the middle palate and through the finish. Ripe fruity taste, distinctive flavour. Ready to drink and over the next few years.
This intriguing malt in casks which used to contain peated whisky. The result is a dram that combines highland poise with some island punch. Past the burnt amber colour, you will find intense malted grain aromas, sultana and treacle, with the added kick of smoky iodine peat. Dry and viscous on the palate, it seamlessly integrates citrus and green apple fruit with sea spray and mineral flavours before trailing off into a long, lightly spiced finish.
Made from almost equal parts of Napa and Sonoma fruit, this Merlot is everything that you want from the varietal — plum, blackberries, black cherries, spice, coffee and cocoa — all built on a medium-bodied frame. Ripe, rich and easy to drink, it offers immediate gratification, or will age pleasantly for couple of years.
As the sun shines hotter, brewers are mixing orange, lemon, grape or even passion fruit juice with their lagers or wheat beers. The name radler is short for radlermass, a German word meaning “cyclist litre.” Invented in 1922 to quench the thirst of Munich cyclists, this half-juice, half-beer mix is citrusy and refreshing. Parallel 49’s take is a mix of 70% of the Vancouver brewery’s Munich Helles lager, and 30% red grapefruit juice. It’s the “beeriest” of them all with tons of bittersweet grapefruit juice flavour, baguette and a hint of grassy hops that help to dry out the swallow.
