The grapes for this wine were sourced from the cooler regions of Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills. Doing this has produced a refined and aromatic Chardonnay imbued with lemon zest, minerals, white flowers, pear, apple and a hint of honey. The palate is vibrant with refreshing acidity working in conjunction with the lemon, apple and pear on the long finale.
Lifted black fruit, blackberry and cassis precede a plush and well-balanced palate of blackberry, black cherry and anise, with well-integrated tannins, a pronounced, stony mineral streak and a lengthy, spicy finish.
Of Bachelder’s two single-vineyard Chardonnays, it is this one which shows the best in warm vintages, as was the case in 2012. Medium to full body, the aromas of toast, apple, roasted hazelnut, baked apple and spice mesh with cream and citrus on the long aftertaste. Hold until 2016 and then drink until 2020.
From a relatively new varietal. Clear but nearly opaque plum red. Healthy nose, port-like, smelling of raspberry jam and pipe tobacco. Low acid and soft tannins make for a smooth mouthfeel, tasting of ripe dark plums with spices and smoke on a medium-long finish. Will last a couple more years.
Firm and savoury with an aroma of roses, penetrating sour cherry and dark berry juicy fruit, smoky and spicy, wonderful complexity and depth, firm tannins and a long fresh finish.
This is a pure expression of dry Chenin; citrus, white flowers, honey, lime, white peach, red apple and crush rock resonate both on the nose and palate. Lifted acidity and a long finish make for a fine aperitif wine or a partner with freshwater fish. Drink over the next 6 years.
Such a thought-provoking and exciting nose of cured and grilled meats, cracked black peppercorns, concentrated cherry, boysenberry, blueberry pie, earth, blackcurrants and garrigue. This is a wild, untethered Syrah loaded with personality on the palate. It shows rich and spicy red and dark fruit that is all propped up by firm tannic structure and bright acidity that lends an air of elegance to the finish.
