Honey, stone fruit and tropical aromas before a citrus and mineral-toned palate defined by a generous mouthfeel and layered with lemon-lime on a lengthy finish.
Kellye Robertson, head brewer at Dartmouth’s all-lager brewery, Spindrift, has created a modern version of the German Schwarzbier. Using 7 specialty malts to amp up the body, the result is a complex nose and aroma: notes of dark bread crusts, dark fruit, toasted nuts, ash and cacao swirl together on a lean, light-bodied black brew. Overall, the crisp, clean sip is effortlessly integrated.
Organically grown, concrete-aged and fermented Syrah sports upfront lifted aromas of red berries and spice notes before a medium-bodied, silky palate supported by supple tannins, dark cherry, cassis, mocha and black pepper with a fresh, clean finish.
A serious CNP, which clocks in at 14.5% alcohol. Cherry, plum, cassis, anise, black pepper, smoke and vague oregano qualities waft out of the glass. Tannins are dry and there is great length. A midterm cellar candidate — drink until 2020.
Yellow straw-coloured with green herbal hoppy and nutty malt aromas, lightly sweet citrus and malt flavours, finishing with stiff jolt of hoppy bitterness. Will appeal to those looking for a lighter but heavily-hopped beer.
Winemaker Francois Morissette may be exaggerating a touch when he says this vintage of his head-turning Cab Franc has the potential to age for 40 years, but he may not be far off. What a beauty! Pretty notes of black cherry, crunchy raspberry, cassis and subtle, ingrained barrel spice. It is seductive — enthralling, in fact, on the palate — with a richness that is hard to describe. Such depth to the cherry, anise and smoky spices with a firm bed of tannins and luxurious feel through the long, silky finish.
Straw yellow. Ripe white fruits (pear, apricot), slightly floral, touches of honey and spices (ginger, cinnamon). Balanced acidity, soft and full texture, pleasant fruity taste. More ripeness in the long finish. Made from the little-known pecorino grape, this is a nice discovery.
