The fruit is farmed organically and biodynamically and French oak aging is in 70% new barrels. Simply gorgeous: a terroir-driven nose of profound flinty minerality, ripe pear, apple skin, lemon and fine-integrated oak nuances. Pure elegance on the palate, a lithe and impeccably balanced Chardonnay that brings a range of pear, apple and citrus together with hazelnut, lovely spice notes and minerals.
Clear deep plum red. Fairly intense nose of blueberry jam, cherry syrup, prunes and vanilla. Medium-bodied with high acidity, still-rough tannins and heat from the alcohol. Tastes of sour cherries with a slightly cherry-pit bitter, long finish. Needs another year.
Seductive spicy strawberry and raspberry scents lead the way for lightly sweet ripe berry flavours on the palate. Acidity and tannins are in harmonious balance, finishing with lingering ripe red fruit. Ripe flavours characteristic of this warm vintage has created an almost New World style.
Second release shows more varietal character from still-young vines, with a splash of Viognier for complexity. Black plum, mocha and cedar notes precede a meaty palate of black fruit, chocolate and pepper notes with some spice and smoke before a lingering end.
Séguret is one of the 20 named villages in the Côtes du Rhône-Villages appellation. Deep purple-ruby in colour, this full-bodied blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre has a cedary nose of blackberries and dried herbs. It’s dry and well-extracted with a savoury flavour of black fruits with lively acidity and a firm tannic finish.
A classic Bordeaux blend with varieties vinified and matured separately, aged 15 months in French oak (31% new). Wild red and black berries on the nose with some earthy notes lead to a juicy, vibrant and layered palate, defined by a streak of savoury underpinned by slate and minerality with blackberry, mulberry and cassis notes, supported by good acidity, an excellent refined tannin structure and a lengthy, shiste finish. Hold for three to five years.
The winery’s name is Spanish for “black hands,” in honour of those that work in the vineyards and winery. Quite complex but very approachable, with penetrating dark cherry and plum fruit flavours, lots of earthiness, silky palate and a delicious finish. Dirt with fruit, in a good way.
