Fresh cherry with green herbal and smoky scents, shifting to black cherry and dark chocolate supported by moderate tannins and slightly forward acidity.
Bright, light straw in colour with an apple nose augmented by oak spice and a thread of minerality. Medium-bodied and dry. Lemony apple flavour and firm finish.
This organic wine is a blend of 5 grapes, with Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon acting as the lead. Ripe and easy-drinking; you will find blackcurrant, cocoa, violets, bay leaf, vanilla and spice. Fullish, it has a long aftertaste.
By no means was '08 an easy red wine vintage in Ontario, but Ann Sperling and her team have pulled of a minor miracle. I credit this to the biodynamic practices that are in place at the Southbrook. This blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 26% Franc possesses a deep cherry colour and a profile of plums, tobacco smoke, spice, flowers, vanilla and pencil shavings. Medium bodied and elegantly styled, there are some noticeable tannins. Drink over the next 3 years.
Medium yellow with adequate bubbles. Faint nose of apple, maybe a hint of apricot. Ripe apple on the palate with perfect acidity. Very quaffable. Drink now.
Ripe black berry-fruits, toasted oak. Sharp acidity balanced with loads of fleshy fruit in the mid-palate. The chunky tannins reveal their firmness in the finish. Drink within a year or 2.
Pale yellow. Pleasant nose of yellow fruits (peach, apricot). Intense fruity taste, smooth texture; balanced. Finish is lifted by acidity. Drink now.
