Graham Rennie shows he can go from his full-blown, in-your-face style of red wine to this elegant Pinot Noir. The nose displays fragrant cherry, raspberry, violets and spicy nutmeg and cinnamon with just a touch of earth. It’s perfectly spiced on the palate with beetroot, savoury cherry, strawberry and a touch of liquorice that travels on a silky bed of medium tannins.
Black fruit and vanilla play beneath a meaty gamy nose, followed by dusty wild blackberry and cassis on the plush and plummy, black-pepper palate, with moderate tannins through a close of lingering berries and spice.
Limoux is the birthplace of sparkling wine, some 150-plus years before Dom Pérignon even touched a grape in the Champagne region. Made in the traditional method, this blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir and Mauzac possesses pinpoint bubbles and a personality of apple, citrus, pear, white peach, wax, anise and yeast. Long finish. Superb value, and one that easily shames many Champagnes at double or triple the price.
This is a full-throttle Chablis that has more power than your usual Chablis. Straw colour with a lovely apple blossom and ripe apple nose; richly extracted and mouth-filling, crisply dry with a firm finish.
Aromatic and expressive aromas of dark fruit, plum, liquorice and earth, quite mouth-filling and structured, yet elegant and restrained with firm tannins, bright acidity and a long, slightly ripe and soft finish. Begs for roasted game.
Characteristic Bordeaux-style scents of earthy plum, green herb, a touch of clove, and blackcurrant. Blackcurrant, black plum and bitter cherry provide the dominant flavours, supported by balanced acidity and moderately dry tannic grip.
Complex aromas of light plum, hints of Christmas spice and liquorice, full bodied with big, underlying velvety tannins, tons of fruit, multi-dimensional penetrating flavours and a long, long finish. Extremely well balanced and classy. Perhaps Sicily’s best red wine.
