A bargain red from Maremma. Deep ruby in colour with a cedary nose of red cherries; medium-bodied and dry. The cherry flavour is augmented by tangy red currant and bolstered by ripe tannins.
Clear medium-deep ruby red. Fairly intense smoky, sweaty nose of raspberry jam, plums and oak. Medium-bodied with simple, jammy cranberry and strawberry flavours. The finish is short and the tannins almost gone. Will last another year but won’t get better, drink now.
Open, easy-drinking and fresh, this excellent value offers apple, mineral and citrus flavours; crisp with good acidity and a clean finish. Pinot Grigio, in general, deservedly gets a bad rap because of the abundance of insipid offerings on the market, but when it’s made well, it is a lovely, drinkable and food-versatile wine. Fabiano is an extremely underrated producer and this wine, in my opinion, is the best quality entry-level Pinot Grigio available on the market. Excellent with summer salads, seafood, poultry and pork.
Close to 90% Sauvignon Blanc and the rest Sémillon, mixed with some new oak, is the recipe for this wine. Apricot, honey, spice, lanolin, nectarine, toast, honey and vague tropical fruit nuances are all in play. The acidity makes for food friendliness — especially halibut, chicken in cream sauce and even some mild curries. Drink from 2014 to 2019.
As the name denotes, there is new oak in the form of vanilla, toast and anise. Add in pineapple, banana, apple and orange attributes from the grape itself and you have a sophisticated and delicious drop of juice. Medium to full body; there is a creamy texture and great length. Lobster risotto with this for sure!
Deeply scented, fleshy dark fruit with peppery and earthy herbal overtones on the nose. Blackberry and raspberry flavours come in a well-balanced, moderately tannic, characterful package.
Scents of peach, grapefruit and background vanilla carry through with ripe peach as well as lemon-citrus flavour; well-balanced refreshing acidity, lightly creamy-buttery texture and sensible alcohol.
