One taste of this wine and you will know why Beaujolais is back. Forget Nouveau (please!); this delicious wine possesses lots of black cherry and spice notes, elegant and stylish with bright acidity on the silky finish. 100% Gamay grapes. Chill it down slightly. A killer food wine.
Pretty much textbook Kiwi Sauv Blanc, with tropical/grapefruit nuances combined with some leafy/cut-grass notes. Crisp and zesty in the mouth with a nice blend of citrus and herbs and enough ripe fruit to prevent it coming off as shrill.
Medium ruby. Light and pleasant nose of red fruits, inviting. Moderately concentrated, delicate tannins and clean fruity taste. Well balanced with a round mouthfeel, easy going. Drinks well now.
Dense purple in colour with a bouquet of cedar, black fruits and vanilla oak; full-bodied and dry, the black plum and blackcurrant flavours are nuanced with bitter chocolate and finely resolved tannins.
One of Ontario’s oldest craft breweries has slowly reinvented the recipe of its IPA to align with beer nerd’s palates: swapping out the hops for brighter, citrusy American and Aussie varietals, and adding them into the beer at the very end of the brewing process to build up to an explosive nose of mango and pineapple riding on a sip of pine and caramel. Worth revisiting if you haven’t tasted it in a while.
Medium-deep garnet. Smells like a lovely old Cabernet Sauvignon — stewed fruits, cherry jam, smoke and leather — but true to the south of France, also contains Syrah and Grenache. Medium-bodied, the acidity and soft tannins are in good balance. The Provençal sunshine is evident in the huge fruit, with cassis and fig flavours and a long finish. From a good year; don’t wait to drink this.
Close to 90% Sauvignon Blanc and the rest Sémillon, mixed with some new oak, is the recipe for this wine. Apricot, honey, spice, lanolin, nectarine, toast, honey and vague tropical fruit nuances are all in play. The acidity makes for food friendliness — especially halibut, chicken in cream sauce and even some mild curries. Drink from 2014 to 2019.
