This wine shows what Argentina can do when it comes to producing an icon wine. Dene purple-black in colour with a cedary, savoury plum nose lifted with vanilla oak notes; full-bodied, dry, earthy black plum flavour with balancing acidity and a firm tannic finish. Needs 3 – 4 years to show its paces.
Made in conjunction with consultants Michel Gassier and Philippe Cambie and named for the king of all gods, this line of wines is always great value for price on our market. The Côtes-du-Rhône is a blend of old-vine Grenache with 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre from a high-altitude vineyard near Roaix (northern point of the Southern Rhône). Grapes are de-stemmed but not crushed, and spend 1 year in concrete before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Dusky blue florals, plum, dried rosemary are softly drawn across grippy, gritty tannins to a drying finish that lingers with violets. Textural and lightly touched (the concrete is impressive here). Authentic, honest and ready to drink with bistro fare.
This second vintage of their 100% Naramata Bench estate-grown Moscato Giallo (Yellow Muscat) continues to delight and impress. The characteristic grapey fruit explosion grabs your attention and seduces your nose and palate. The sweet peach upfront turns to vibrant citrus and melon on the mid-palate and then intriguing dried blueberries on the long finish. Its medium dry style makes it a great match with prosciutto-wrapped melon with tangy pecorino cheese.
Pale yellow with a light grey tint. Complex nose of citrus, hints of tropical fruits and honey; discreet oak. Soft attack, ripe flavour; oak brings extra fattiness without tasting as oak. Nice round finish. Ready to drink.
This is a beautifully nuanced Chardonnay with a range of baked apple, lemon, creamy pear, stony minerality and such wonderful elegant barrel spice notes on the nose. It’s rich yet finessed on the palate with all those lovely apple/pear/citrus flavours melded to rousing barrel spices, minerality and mouth-watering acidity.
Opens with fleshy red fruit, gamey and spicy notes, a splash of vanilla and a pinch of herb. Harmoniously balanced fruit, spice, a dash of milk chocolate in the mouth lead into a dry, somewhat tannic finish.
A well-priced white Burgundy. Straw colour with a green tint; sour cream, apple nose; medium-bodied, deftly handled oak with minerally, apple and sour cream flavours.
