Approachable and fresh, with bright blackcurrant, plum and mocha flavours, plush tannins and a round, elegant, concentrated finish. The grapes are all from Luján de Cuyo. Perfect for grilled wild boar chops or a NY striploin.
What a beauty! The nose rocks with classic smoked deli meat, bacon fat, blackcurrants, pepper, sage, bay leaves and Cuban cigar leaf. Good structure on the palate for this pure and complex Syrah that shows a meaty, peppery profile with well-integrated dark fruits and spice.
A blend of McLaren Vale and Clare Valley fruit, this is a finely toned and complex Shiraz with bold aromatics of smoky blackberry, blueberry, kirsch, liquorice, eucalypt and cracked peppercorns. The juicy black fruits on the palate are joined by tar, liquorice, sweet oak spice, mint and pepper notes that are carried on a bed of fine tannins through a long finish. Did someone say lamb?
A traditional, bottle-fermented blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this attractive fizz shows rich, toasty biscuity notes with plenty of fruit, good weight, creamy texture, sufficient acidity and agreeably yeasty savour.
Good value here. Straw colour with a peachy-citrus nose augmented by a thread of minerality; medium-bodied, dry, peach flavour with a honeyed note and balancing acidity.
Deeply scented raspberry and cherry, accented with a splash of spicy and herbal notes and sweet dark cherry flavour dominant in the mouth. Rounds out with dark chocolate.
Back in 1993, Inniskillin partnered with the Burgundy house of Jaffelin to produce Alliance, Ontario’s first premium Pinot Noir. That wine and partnership have long ago given up the ghost, but those old vines have now been scooped up by Thomas Bachelder for his Niagara project. The pale colour might make you think that this is a timid wine, but don’t be fooled. The bouquet of cherry, plum, toast and earth meets up with spice and sage on the palate. Excellent length. Drink until 2020.
