From BC’s first exclusive sparkling winery, 100% Chardonnay; pale straw, more towards off-dry, quite creamy notes with definite mineral and citrus lime elements. Not complex but good breadth and finish.
From a warm year comes this blend of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Grechetto. A medium yellow colour leads the way into a combination of toast, pineapple, red apples, canned corn and liquorice. There is excellent length, a creamy texture and it is ready to drink.
Proprietor Harry McWatters foresaw the potential of the Black Sage Bench’s sandy loam soil over 20 years ago. Bold scents and luscious flavours of honeysuckle, pineapple and butterscotch. Apple-like crispness balances the buttery texture and oak-derived complexity. Finishes with a lick of lemon oil and vanilla spice. Tasty with bacon polenta.
This one is predominantly Malbec blended with Bonarda and Syrah to produce a forward, perfumed wine showing ripe dark berry, blackcurrant, cinnamon, clove and minty herbal notes. It is rounded and velvety smooth on the palate, with milk chocolate and sweet ripe fruit lingering on the finish. Emphatically fruity New World style.
Rich, bold and dark with elegant yet grippy tannins; lots of blackberry and dark cherry flavours, cedar and spice with an intriguing edginess, finishing big, but juicy. Such a cool wine. Great with wild game.
Clear, very deep garnet. Mature nose of black cherry jam and stewed plums with a bit of “barnyard.” Full-bodied and very fruity (more cherry jam). The fruit, high alcohol and tannins are in lovely balance now, so drink up.
Shiraz (70%) dominates the aromas: violets, dark fruits, smoky notes. Tannat (30%) builds the structure: full-bodied, inky texture, powerful-yet-smooth tannins. They combine to offer ripe, rich flavours such as blackberry and sweet plum. Nutmeg and liquorice linger. Think beef: burger, stew or roast.
