Elegant, lively, complex and balanced with cherry, plum, strawberry and tobacco flavours. Notes of earth, leather and mineral, firm tannins, bright acidity and a long, refreshing finish that lingers with the fruit, earth and savoury notes. Bring on the wild boar chops.
Yiannis Tselepos, famous for his white Amalia Brut (made from the aromatic Moschofilero varietal) is now producing a companion rosé bubbly made from the local Agiorgitiko grape. Strawberry, cherry, red flowers, dried earth and herb flavours are all in play. A fine mousse, fresh acid and great length make for a perfect pairing with smoked salmon and charcuterie.
Terres Dorées is a limestone-laden area known as the "Region of the Golden Stones." Sustainably focused and non-interventionist in both the vineyard and winery, Brun is a firm advocate of minimal SO2, natural yeast, old vines and low yields. L'Ancien, from vines 50‒80 years old, is savoury and lithe. Wild herbs, rasped stone, juicy wild raspberry and thorns are lifted with bright and lifted cherry and textured with mineral salts. Graceful, with a bamboo-firm frame of tannins. Salted sage lingers on the lengthy finish. Drinking well now (mine went with truffle salted frites and lardon-decked endive) or will cellar for 5+ years easy. #GoGamayGo.
Dark ruby. Perfumed nose on notes of ripe red berries. Fresh fruity taste, balanced acidity in a medium- to full-bodied mid-palate. Definitely well made but without individuality or expression of a particular terroir.
There is nothing added, nothing taken away in this natural wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is all about fresh grapefruit, herbs, newly cut hay, citrus rind and lemon. Such gorgeous texture on the palate, and completely dry, with expressive grapefruit, lemon tart, interesting savoury herbs and grass, plus waves of freshening citrus acidity.
Ruby purplish. Seductive nose of red and black fruits, subtle oak. Full-bodied yet fresh with supple tannins well wrapped in fruit. Good balance overall. Drink this great buy within a year.
Medium-deep garnet. Nose of cherry cough syrup (in a good way), cassis and oak. Predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon. Its flavour could be mistaken for a good Bordeaux. Medium-bodied with noticeable tannins, tasting of black cherries and plums. Will not get better from here. Drink now.
