This wine will make you think of summer. Light straw colour with a frothy rim; orange blossom, cardamom nose; light-bodied, medium-sweet perfumed orange and peach flavours. Clean, lingering finish with a touch of bitterness at the end. Enough acidity to keep it in balance.
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is an impressive backward wine that requires another 2 years in the bottle before being enjoyed. The nose is still a tad shy at this early stage, but cassis, black raspberries, menthol, plums, cherries, spice and cocoa are discernible. Medium- to full-bodied, the tannins are distinct and strong, so when the time arises, serve it with some medium-rare steak with a char on the outside. Drink it from 2014 to 2021.
Clear, medium-deep garnet, starting to brown at the edges. Somewhat faint bouquet of plums and blueberries with a drizzle of maple syrup. Light-bodied, fresh and fruity for its age, tasting of tart cherries with a long finish. Drink now, won’t get better.
Hard to imagine Chardonnay being produced in the heat of Israel, but this leading producer has crafted a warm climate Chardonnay that shows nice tropical fruits, pear and creamy vanilla notes on the nose. A hint of citrus flavours emerges on the palate to go with creamy apple, tropical fruits and spice. Surprisingly balanced. Serve with poached salmon or lobster dishes.
Deep garnet. Medium nose of black cherry with milk chocolate and vanilla. Full-bodied with a soft mouthfeel despite tangy acidity. Young and fruity cherry flavours, easy to quaff for a hearty red wine. Drink now.
Ruby red core with garnet red rim. Complex bouquet of cherry, prune, spice, tobacco, pencil lead and balsamic notes. Well structured, elegant and harmonious, yet bolstered by ripe, powerful tannins. Cellar 5‒10 years and then open for contemplative conversation.
This New England–style IPA crafted by Barrie’s eclectic Flying Monkeys took home gold at the Ontario Brewing Awards this year. Pouring a hazy peach hue with a lasting mousse-like head, aromas of pine, pineapple and pink grapefruit flesh burst out to the nose and carry through to the sip that balances baguette-like sweetness with plenty of judicious citrusy hops before cresting to a long, bitter ending of grapefruit pith.
