This JCR bottling of Chardonnay has a highly mineralized and complex nose of apple, vanilla toast, river rock, pear and integrated spice notes. Incredible how fresh this wine is on the palate considering the heat that summer and fall. The flavours of rich apple and pear with citrus accents are intense but well integrated with just the right amount of spice and mineral notes through the vibrant finish.
This 100% Montepulciano can best be described as “strong but gentle.” Rustic and oaky, yet well balanced by the violet and black cherry aromas, fruity flavours, dry tannins and velvety finish. Induced a craving for Montreal smoked meat. Good value.
It’s been a while that this wine has been produced — the fruit was declassified in 2013, 2012 and 2011. It was worth the wait. Let it open up; it will reveal a complex nose of pretty yet assertive black cherries, strawberries, liquorice, earth, loam, violets, cassis and elegant oak spices. It is silky on the palate with a range of red fruits, beetroot and lovely barrel spices all perked up by that racy cool-climate acidity. A beautiful Pinot.
Bargain-priced Malbec. Purple-ruby colour in colour, it has a spicy, black-cherry nose with a peppery note; on the palate, sweet black fruit flavours with supple tannins and a good spine of acidity. Ideal barbecue wine.
Dark pink with generous, lasting white foam. Sour strawberry and cranberry on the nose. Sour fruity taste and extremely refreshing. Very dry, lean texture and a short, bitter finish.
This is the long-awaited first release from a winery that will not officially open its doors until 2016. Several barrel samples I have tasted provide compelling evidence that Lightfoot and Wolfville is destined to do great things in Nova Scotia. Subtle richness on the nose is reminiscent of Premier Cru Burgundy, revealing lemon citrus, buttery spice, a deft touch of vanillin and an elegant hazelnut backdrop. Rounded richness plays through on the palate with incisive green apple and citrus flavours, focused minerality and brisk acidity. Bright fruit and mellow, leesy notes linger on the finish. This extraordinary wine has only been in the bottle for a short time. It will continue to develop for years to come.
Triple-distilled, which is uncommon for a single malt Scotch whisky, this is a trim, delicate Lowland whisky. Roasted almonds and toffee on the nose thanks to partial aging in oloroso butts, along with citrus peel (lemon and lime) and raspberry leaf. Smooth, citric and gingery; there’s a burst of sweetness before it dries right out on the finish.
