Black plum, black cherry and anise imbue this sultry, savoury blend of Montepulciano and Aglianico from DOC Biferno Rosso in Molise. Supple leather on the palate carries dried cherry and raspberry, dusky mulberry, anise and perfumed scrubby herbals (rosemary, thyme, rock roses). Lovely red-fruited and floral intensity for its 13.5% frame.
Pinot Noir (100%) produces medium rose colour in the glass, with lifted bright cherry up-front, followed by a juicy, cherry and strawberry-toned palate through a refreshing end.
Shows fresh green apple and lemon citrus character and medium weight on the well-balanced palate, finishing with clean acidity and a trace of hazelnut. Straightforward typical Maconnais style.
Amazingly complex with a ripe, mouth-filling, creamy texture. Rich apricot, pear, nectarine, orange peel, ginger, fig and persimmon, balanced beautifully with a bright acidity with a hint of nuttiness on the lasting finish. A stunning wine and a great case for Chenin Blanc being the signature white varietal of South Africa.
Pale orange-pink in colour with a minerally nose of red cherries and a floral grace note; medium-bodied, dry, clean and crisp with red plum and citrus flavours.
This small but focused Naramata producer impresses right out of the gate. Up-front anise, violet and smoky-earthy hints followed by a supple palate with balanced fruit and oak below a savoury and mineral centre with appealing acidity. Multiple awards.
Intriguing piquant red currant, cinnamon, clove and a whiff of minty herb shift to more characteristic appetizing bitter-cherry flavours, mouth-watering acidity, good weight and structure and food-friendly dry finish. Great value.
