Another stunning 2012 red from Two Sisters, this one based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon. There is a lifted personality of cassis, dark plum, raspberry, vanilla, anise and tobacco smoke. Elegant, with a sweet mid-palate and fine tannins. Drink over the next 6 years. Fans of Bordeaux will gravitate to this wine.
Pale gold. Floral nose, mostly elderflower with gooseberry and a bit of guava. Light-bodied with high acidity amplifying flavours of lemon, grapefruit, lime, and Granny Smith apple. Could have a more integrated character. Drink up.
From 400 m and 35 years vine age, in the hills of Corbières, this Grenache, Syrah, Carignan employs partial carbonic maceration and aging for up to 1 year in oak barrels, before light fining and no filtration. Grenache rules (nearly half) with perfumed raspberry, strawberry, dark cherry, violets and a lurking scrubby herbaceousness on a soft, bright palate with tannins finely grippy. A fine peppery spicing and bitter blackcurrant lingers on the finish. Expect a balance and elegance you might not normally find in the south. An ideal bistro wine, well-priced, and one I'd gladly order with steak frites.
Shows vanilla spiciness on the nose with complex pencil box woody notes and a hint of banana. Mellow, rounded, almost creamy, with harmoniously integrated fruity, spicy flavours on the palate. Long spicy finish has just enough fiery warmth.
A bargain Barbaresco from a great vintage. Ruby colour, a nose of vanilla oak, dried cherries, graphite and minerals. Medium bodied, dry, great extract and balance with a lovely velvety mouthfeel.
