A well-priced Aussie Shiraz. Dense purple-black in colour; cedary, blackberry nose with smoky oak; full-bodied, richly extracted black plum flavour backed by vanilla oak; firmly structured.
One of the best Ontario Chardonnays I’ve come across in a long time. It’s straw coloured with a nose of apple, pear, minerals, and a smoky note, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced with well-extracted savoury fruit, creamy oak and mineral flavours and a long finish.
From the winery’s estate vineyard in Summerland, hand punched down, aged 12 months in used French barriques. Aromas of wild red berries and forest floor precede a pure fruit entry defined by cherry, strawberry and raspberry with savoury undertones, a silky textured mouthfeel, medium bodied with good acidity and structure through a gently spicy finish.
Developed deep red fruit with raspberry and supporting peppery spice shifting to concentrated dark berry and black chocolate themes on the palate. Shows a touch of liquorice on the slightly bitter tannic finish. Will be better with 2 to 3 years additional aging.
This little-known grape from Argentina produces a wine that is purple-black in colour with a spicy, vanilla and black-cherry nose. Medium-bodied and dry with good presence in the mouth, it has black plum and cherry flavours ending on a cedary note. The good news is that at $14.95 it punches way above its weight. A red-meat wine if ever there was one.
From Haynes Creek Vineyard, on a steep, hot, west-facing site sloping down towards Osoyoos Lake. Black and blue fruits up front, followed by vibrant cassis and blackberry and spicy black pepper notes on the palate supported by firm tannins with generous mouthfeel, juicy acidity and good structure through a fruit driven finish.
Very pale in colour but don't let that put you off — this wine has lots of flavour. A grassy nose of green plum and grapefruit zest; medium-bodied, dry with gooseberry and elderberry flavours and great length.
