100% Negroamaro, an indigenous variety from the area. Notes of candied, dried black fruits give its nose an impression of warmth. Fully ripe, tame acidity, round and supple middle palate. A nice glass of sunshine at an attractive price.
Classic McLaren Vale GSM, but very modern-hued. Generous leather, dusky plum and black liquorice, seasoned with a salt wash and dark chocolate cherry and kept fresh with a stream of acidity. This year's is a blend of 45/40/15 GSM, sourced from Dry Creek, Pappas and Redwind vineyards, all in the Sellicks foothills. Crushed and destemmed, this went into old oak hogsheads, with the Mataro on skins for an extra 10 days after primary fermentation. Grippy, fine, firm tannins work to hold the ample, juicy fruit in check. Drinking well now and for short term. Fire up the barbie.
Organic. Pale pink and slightly fizzy. Smells like strawberry liquorice with melon and a bit of banana. On the palate, it features more strawberry as well as cantaloupe and watermelon, and a bright acidity. Light and refreshing, to be drunk immediately.
Lemon citrus, a whiff of grapefruit and a hint of butterscotch on the nose rounds out on the palate with creamy lemon citrus and a light splash of butterscotch balanced by refreshing acidity.
Ruby colour with a mature tawny note at the rim; spicy, cedary nose of blackberries and dried herbs; medium-bodied, dry, elegant, beautifully balanced juicy black plum and cherry flavours. A pleasure to drink (and a shame to spit).
Clear inky-deep plum red. Medium-intensity nose of black cherry and black pepper. Lots more black cherry on the palate, full-bodied with a long finish. High alcohol makes it a bit hot. Needs another couple of years.
Clear deep plum red. Rich and mature nose of cassis and oak with blueberry and a touch of fig. Full bodied and mouth-coating with cherry and prune flavours seasoned with a dash of black pepper, finishing on bitter chocolate. Tannins still muscular and the acidity is a bit high. Value. Will last another year or two.
