Interesting, rather complex nose shows developed fruit, and a dusting of fine spice. Red fruit flavours and gradually softening tannins with a touch of mocha and lightly astringent finish. Characterful, but atypical Rioja.
Sourced from 11 specific vineyard sections. Be seduced by expressive aromas and rich flavours of boldo tea, coffee bean, chocolate and fragrant spice. The profound complexity and well-balanced palate are swaddled by soft tannins. A very satisfying savoury and spice-laden finish. Enjoy with merquén spice–rubbed pork.
Good depth of straw gold colour with scents of ripe green fruit and a distinctive floral note. Clean green apple flavour is delivered in a deftly balanced package with stony mineral character and lively acidity, offset by attractive creaminess.
All estate grown fruit, mainly stainless steel fermented yields vibrant orchard and stone fruits up front before a generous but well balanced palate of pear, peach and apple with a little extra body from partial neutral oak. With oak kept well in check, the fruit prevails throughout perked up by freshness and juicy acidity through the close. Excellent value.
A true rarity from often unforgiving Vancouver island, these 15-year-old vines are sited on a hot spot on rocky soils. Impressive red and black fruit with toasty notes up front precede a luscious, well rounded palate supported by approachable, well integrated tannins with lingering vanilla and floral notes to close.
Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari imbued plenty of Italian character in this Super Tuscan style blend of Sangiovese (43%), Cab Sauv (36%) and Syrah (21%). Opens with dried flowers and tealeaf aromas, followed by game and truffle. Flavours of plum, cherry and earthy spice. Long, warm finish. Pair with a hearty risotto.
Normally, I prefer my spirits unadulterated, but this one, lightly infused with honey, has made me a convert. It reveals a distinctive honeyed scent overlaid with cinnamon spice, together with citrus fruit, vanilla and caramel. Flavours of citrus and darker fruits kick in on the smoothly rounded palate, finishing with agreeable warming spirit and nutty dry oak. A fine after-dinner sipper and another exceptional value.
