This solid-value combination of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot reveals a bouquet of cassis, raspberry, tobacco smoke and vanilla on a light- to medium-bodied frame. Tannins are soft, and there is admirable richness and persistency. Drink over the next 2 years.
A well-priced Beaujolais cru. Purple-black in colour with a floral, black-cherry nose; light and fresh, fruity but firm. Easy drinking. Chill lightly.
The smoky nose shows an eclectic range of leather and charcuterie, then opens up to thick and rich dark fruits, black peppercorns, vanilla and savoury spices. This is serious Syrah on the palate: dark, dense and concentrated with a silky feel. An array of fruit flavours — cassis, currants and plums — followed by tobacco, leather, grilled meats and pepper, all carried on a bed of fine tannins.
Vivid copper colour. Forward nose of sweet Asian melon, a touch of banana. The mostly Pinot Noir and Syrah blend tastes of apricot, orange and red berries. Outstanding with an artisan bacon and tomato sandwich. Extreme value.
This classic Niagara Pinot shows a lighter red colour in the glass with aromas of brambly raspberry, violets, earth, beetroot, savoury cherry, mushrooms and elegant spice notes. It’s tight at this stage but forgiving, with medium tannic structure, brambly red fruits, mineral notes, complexity and length through the finish.
This 100% Syrah offers depth and complexity. Smoke, cassis, rosemary, cured meat, iron, violets and liquorice are all present on the nose. The same reciprocates on the palate as well as a cocoa/pepper elements that carry the finale. Medium body. Now until 2022.
Palomino is a white grape that typically finds its way in Sherry, but this bodega crafts a characterful white from it. Full body with appealing salty and roasted almond notes and a charming oxidative profile. The slight bitterness compensates for the moderate acidity. A wine made to shine with food: Manchego and roasted almond for the aperitif and mushroom risotto for the main course.
