A true rarity from often unforgiving Vancouver island, these 15-year-old vines are sited on a hot spot on rocky soils. Impressive red and black fruit with toasty notes up front precede a luscious, well rounded palate supported by approachable, well integrated tannins with lingering vanilla and floral notes to close.
Only the second offering from Toronto’s Steam Whistle in 20 years, this gentle Pale Ale eschews hop bombast for a toasted grain and biscuit body with mild, grassy bitterness. The flavours are clean and well-delineated, but less on trend than bell bottoms.
This Argentine blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon has a generous nose of thick blackberry, wild raspberry, earth, tar and beautiful oak spice notes. The dark berries on the palate meld perfectly with the spice notes, bramble and liquorice through a smooth finish.
Floral and elegant with notes of stone fruit and nuts. Incredibly well balanced and smooth, it glides across the palate finishing warm and seamless. Originally created in 1838 by Augustin Godet as an ultra-dry Cognac to aid digestion, the current generation of Godet brothers produce the spirit from organically grown grapes, without chemicals, pesticides or any artificial additives. Stellar and incredible value compared to so many more expensive cognacs.
Ruby-purple. Soft nose of black fruits, very ripe but not jammy; spicy notes and pastry notes from the oak. Velvety, warm and full on the palate, the intense fruit and silky tannins coat the mouth. Only the finish is a little firm. Drink over the next 3 to 5 years.
Lighter in style than previous vintages but still of elevated stature. Full-bodied, both on the nose and palate, it resonates with plum, crème de cassis, dark cherry, raisins, cocoa, anise and violets. Full-bodied and long and with the structure to age 2 decades.
Ruby garnet colour. The fine nose shows classy red fruit notes and barely perceptible oak. Silky texture with a tight and firm backbone of fine tannins that turn slightly astringent in the finish, a sign of aging potential (3 to 5 years).
