This is the best wine I have tasted from Magnotta’s G Marquis portolio. 50% Merlot, 25% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Dense ruby-purple in colour with a bouquet of cedar and blackcurrants; medium-bodied; savoury, herbal, black olive and currant flavours with a floral grace note.
Nice concentration showing ripe aromas and flavours of dried cherry and plum; lovely balance with a velvety texture, hint of spice and a touch of minerality on the long, lingering finish. Made from grapes that were dried for 1 month.
Dense purple-black in colour with herbal, blackberry and vanilla oak on the nose; medium to full-bodied, dry, blackberry and dried herb flavours with a firm tannic finish.
A blend of eau de vie from Grand and Petite Champagne aged between 4 and 12 years, this popular VSOP is medium-bodied and energetic with aromas of ripe pear, citrus zest, vanilla and oak. A honeyed palate of orchard fruit and orange peel leads to a spicy, drawn-out finish.
Hints of pumpkin, melon, almond and a trace of funky mushroom on the nose. On the palate, it’s fresh and viscous, with suggestions of toasted nuts and ripe melon with a characteristic touch of earthiness. Clean and crisp, with a hint of heat on the finish.
The clear bottle shows off the attractive, copper-tinged “vin gris” hue, due to extended grape skin contact. Fragrant pear and fig aromas accompany apricot and quince flavours. Juicy acidity, medium-plus weight and richly textured. Spice-laden pear-skin finish. Well suited to vegetable dishes.
The Vinemount Ridge appellation is quickly becoming the new “sweet spot” for Riesling production on the Bench. Medium-bodied, this wine is still reserved. That being said, there is lime, mineral, green apple and peach on the nose and palate. There is some residual sugar, but the perception is that of a dry wine, due to the crisp acidity. Drink over the next 5 years.
