Musqué is an aromatic clone of Chardonnay that gives the wine a floral top note. This wine is light straw in colour with a nose of apples and apple blossom; dry and medium-bodied, it’s surprisingly light on the palate for its 13.6% alcohol. A good buy at the price.
Pale straw in colour; a nose of lime and grapefruit and developing petrol notes; medium-bodied, honeyed apple with a sweet mid-palate that fills the mouth.
Pale yellow. Fresh nose of citrus with a mineral hint. Sweetish attack from the oak, even if the wine is technically dry. Full-flavoured with a smooth texture. The lengthy finish has a nice acid lift.
Spicy cherry and plum scents shift to appetizing, lightly bitter cherry flavours with moderate tannins, food-friendly acidity and a touch of chocolate, finishing very dry.
Elegant, fragrant and fresh with penetrating sour cherry, wild berries and wild currant aromas and flavours, great structure and focus with finesse and a stony minerality; freshly herbal and lengthy, crisp finish. The vineyard on the slopes of Mt Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe, and high altitude contribute to the vibrancy, intensity and minerality of the wine. Don’t let the lighter colour fool you, this wine has loads of finesse and character and is the perfect example to show that a wine doesn’t need to be dark and heavy to be great. 100% Nerello Mascalese from 80- to 100-year-old pre-phylloxera bush wines.
Here is my sweetheart from this year’s Icewine Gala. The deep yellow colour ushers in candied peaches, dried apricots, sponge toffee, figs and mangoes. Full-bodied; the fruit just lingers on the tongue, and the acid is just right.
Medium-deep garnet, with sediment. Nose of raisins and stewed plums and apricots. A little hot with alcohol at 19.5%, but otherwise well balanced. Fruit, including cherries, dates and strawberry jam, is still fresh-tasting. Very like a vintage port, only affordable. Ready to drink but will cellar well for a few more years.
