This is a humble Petit Chablis from one of the appellation's historic, unsung (IMHO) producers, the father-son team of Jean-Paul and Benoît Droin. The Droins have been producing wines in Chablis for 400 years (their history as vignerons dates back at least to 1620). Benoît represents the 14th generation of Droins and is one of the most dynamic young winemakers in the region today. They own 13 ha of vineyards, including many 1er and Grand Cru sites. Lemon and stones ride along a bed of lees in this streamlined white, with ample pear, subtle stone fruit, lemon and fine spice. There's an earthy herbal wave to the finish. Ideal for drinking now, while you wait for your Grand Cru Chablis to be ready.
The earliest harvest on record yielded forward red berries, with bright cherry and red currant before a medium-bodied palate of wild strawberry and cherry with a gentle, savoury, earthy edge, grippy tannins with good structure before a pleasing, well rounded close.
Another natural ferment wine from Big Head. Petrol, passion fruit, guava, white flowers and grass are built on a medium-bodied frame. Crisp acidity and a mineral finale complements everything.
Ruby-purplish. Interesting nose of raspberry, tobacco and kirsch. Only medium-bodied, but the intense flavour opens the middle palate in a nice way. Supple and easily approachable.
Aromas and flavours of white peaches, pineapple, citrus rind and tea; fleshy texture in the mid-palate with a soft acidity on the long finish. A versatile food wine having the ability to match with everything from grilled octopus to white fish to spicy cuisines.
Deep purple colour with a cedary, spicy, smoky nose of blackberries; full-bodied, mouth-filling flavours of sweet plums and blackberries with a soft tannic finish. A well-made wine.
Not your typical overly tart, overdone style becoming too common from this region. Elegant and bright with quince and pear notes; vibrant, great acidity with citrus zest and a spicy finish.
