Aged on lees, it exhibits a copper colour with an amber rim. A subtle nose of dark caramel, toasted malt and a touch of coriander will hit your nose, followed by a powerful wet-cereal aroma as it warms up in the glass. It has a rich taste and a velvety texture. The finish is slightly bitter and has a very good length.
This wine is unofficially known as the “Bistro” Chardonnay and is only sold at restaurants. Barrel-fermented and aged for 12 months, the wine exudes ripe pear, apple, peach, honey, spice, white flower, vanilla, cream and toast. It is medium-bodied with excellent length and refreshing acidity. Lobster ravioli in a beurre noisette sauce or filet of halibut are well suited to this wine.
A very different wine for Niagara with the Malbec and Shiraz (a 50/50 blend) co-fermented in demi-muid (600-litre) oak barrels. The nose is expressive with blackberry, blueberry, dark plums, roasted meats, mocha, liquorice and smoke built in an old-world style. Very earthy and structured on the palate with currants, anise and cracked black peppercorns, with good acid and firm tannins.
Opens with mellow green apple and subtle nutty overtones on the nose, with typical green apple flavour delivered in a rounded, creamy texture, countered by contrasting crisp acidity and dry mineral grip. Solid, food-friendly and fairly priced.
A delicious mouthful of tasty juice showing raspberry and cherry with spice and mineral. Great balance and freshness, ready to drink, with good length and hints of liquorice on the juicy finish.
The purple/red colour leads into plums, blackberries, vanilla, cocoa powder and brief hints of mint. It is full-bodied but not overt, thanks to the fact the grapes were sourced from the cool regions of Robe and Mount Benson, in the southern Limestone Coast GI. The acid is fresh, the length is excellent and the tannins are supple. Drink it over the next 5 years.
Elegant bouquet unfolds fine red fruit, cinnamon, clove and subtle oak. Lovely strawberry and cherry flavours are delivered with good depth and harmonious balance. Well-integrated fruit, oak and light tannic grip round out the finish.
