Pale straw colour, fresh aromatics, brightly textured palate and twist-off top bespeak its “Grigio” style. The no-oak treatment means lively apple, citrus and tropical scents and flavours. Appetizing herbaceous notes complement the clean, zesty finish. A well-poised reception wine at a well-positioned price point.
Strawberry notes up-front with hints of darker red fruit and earthy notes before an elegant but precise entry; red currant and a touch of cherry, layered and textured with luscious mouthfeel and a plush end.
From the commune of Serralunga d’Alba comes this full-bodied Nebbiolo with an intense nose of sweet cherry, flowers, plum, raspberry, vanilla and spice. Concentrated; there is great length and structure which will allow a long life.
The very fragrant bouquet of cherry, raspberry and cinnamon becomes stylistically richer on the palate. Firm acidity, lively texture and fine tannins make for a well-balanced palate. Those red fruits plus sassafras notes just keep on giving on the juicy finish. A prime partner for all manner of poultry.
Dark and dense, but still possessing a brightness with ripe wild berries, plum and red currant and a touch of wet earth and black pepper. Nice with ribs with a spicy/tangy Carolina bbq sauce.
Red Burgundy can be an expensive hobby, but occasionally I come across a wine that has all the hallmarks of costly Burgundy at an affordable price. Ruby-garnet in colour, the bouquet is earthy, with raspberry and a hint of violets and coffee beans. It’s dry, light bodied, firmly structured and remarkably elegant for the price.
Absolute non-intervention saw Syrah placed in two 500 l. terracotta amphorae and left completely undisturbed for 8 months, with natural wild ferment spanning five weeks. Lifted red and black berries with pleasing meaty gamy notes lead to bing cherry, mocha, black pepper and spice notes played against juicy acidity and plush mouthfeel with lingering spice and cedar, and a purity of flavour persistent through the close.
