Looking for a bold and meaty rosé to perk up your collection? This is for you. Manly, in-your-face strawberry, blueberry and cherry fruit on the nose of this Malbec rosé. It’s slightly off-dry on the palate but layered in strawberry-cherry fruit that lingers on the finish.
I tasted this magnificent Muscat of Alexandria at the Vancouver Wine Festival. Amber colour with honey, orange peel, raisins, dates and figs on the nose; full-bodied with burnt sugar and molasses flavours, beautifully harmonious with enough acidity to balance and give great length.
Blend of mainly Merlot (68%) with Cabernet Franc (11%) Cabernet Sauvignon (8%) Petit Verdot (8%) and Malbec (5%) from an exceptional vintage (one of the best on record). Lifted black fruit and hints of cedar and spice on the nose, followed by a bold but elegant palate defined by firm but already approachable tannins, balanced by good acidity with a lingering, gently spicy end. Arguably the best to date.
A classic Bordeaux blend of 40% Sémillon, 40% Sauvignon and 20% Muscadelle, this is a lively, aromatic wine showing floral and slightly wild green herbal character with typical grassy green fruit freshness. It is not as exuberant on the palate but nicely balanced with a smooth agreeable finish. Pair with shellfish, especially oysters on the half shell.
Interesting blend of 4 varietals, of which the Chardonnay speaks loudest. Clear medium-deep gold. Fairly strong nose of citrus and apple with pronounced French oak. Full-bodied with a long finish and so much rich fruit (citrus, peach, apricot) it tastes almost off-dry. Only gets this score if you like oak. Will last a couple more years.
Opens with intriguing and aromatic pineapple and citrus on the nose. Similar tropical-fruit flavours in the mouth show lively intensity balanced by crisply refreshing acidity. The vibrant fruit character and crisp finish create easy-to-like charm.
Potent and direct, now worn soft around the sides with some time, this is drawn from three terroirs: eastern Corbières, south, near the edge of the Frito and 15 percent from the Corbières Boutenac cru. This spent time on lees, 40 percent in barrels (20 percent new) and 60 percent in stainless. Drilling dark anise, cassis jam, brooding black pepper and sultry pipe tobacco along sticky, ripe tannins to a warming, espresso bitter finish. Even open a day in advance, this welcomes hearty beef and lamb shank to counter.
