Chalky, marl soils, steep slopes, and an elevation of close to 500 metres all contribute to this mineral, salty, fresh, linear wine with a long length and slightly ripe fruit flavours. The wine still maintains an electric racy acidity which is in line with the producers’ description of 2015 as a warm vintage, but in which acidity was maintained. Sudsteiermark is located in southeastern Austria along the Slovenian border and is characterized by plentiful hills and steep slopes. Sauvignon Blanc is the most important grape variety in the area.
The combination of aromatic purity, power and balance are truly impressive. Huge lime, bergamot, white peach and crystalline minerality soar across the senses. The palate achieves the status of a lovely Kabinett with a long aftertaste. Still an infant; it will be interesting revisit this wine as it evolves over the next decade, at least.
This house continues to produce attractive wines at attractive prices. Cherry, plum, earth, spice and earth are all built on concentrated fame. Long aftertaste and lots of life ahead.
Reveals delicate floral and incisive citrus scents. Fine, delicate characteristic Riesling varietal citrus, mineral and lively acidity are all in place on the palate but matched by a compelling softness. Finishes with lingering citrus and green apple flavours. A welcome addition to the growing stable of fine NS Rieslings.
Purplish rim. Red and black berries, pastry notes from the oak. Bright taste of red fruits, thick texture, generous chewy tannins and a good dose of alcohol for warmth, especially in the finish.
One of the best examples of this grape variety I’ve tasted. It’s dense purple in colour with a minerally cherry nose with creamy oak. Medium-bodied, it has a rustic black cherry flavour with lively acidity. Works well with hearty winter casseroles.
Medium straw in colour with aromas of apple, straw and vanilla oak. Full on the palate with well extracted fruit, great balance and length.
