From the Pedernal Valley and sourced from Malbec at 1,350 m, this approachable Malbec spent 15 months in new American and French barrels, which is felt in the spiciness of this generous, big red. Cedar, cherries, raspberries, blackberries are framed with dense, sweet tannins that dry out quickly on the snappy, peppery finish. Up front and ready for consumption now, especially with grilled beef, pork or mushrooms.
I have had the chance to visit and taste at this winery on a couple of occasions and their commitment to quality is undeniable. This 2011 is a soft (for Barolo) and fruity offering with cherry, rose, dried flower, mocha and spice. Full-bodied, with a grippy finale and the 15% alcohol peaking out at the edges.
Angular with notes of orange peel, lemon, honey, hot stone and pleasant smoky aromas. The Stravinsky of the Austrian Riesling? Open ahead of time if you drink it now. I myself put some aside to revisit 5-8 years from now as it needs time to show all of its subtle nuances. Spectacular.
Pale yellow. The nose features citrus notes and some complexity brought by the oak. Nice balance on the palate; pleasant throughout, but especially the finish. A good glass of Californian Chardonnay at an affordable price, ready to enjoy.
This is your quintessential steak wine. Medium-plus body; there is cassis, smoke, mint, vanilla, violets, herbs and mint. Ripe and flavourful, it has the potential to cellar for a couple of years, if so desired.
Made in the New-World style. Deep plum-red. Nose of cherries, spice, a little sulphur that dissipates. Sweet blueberry and cherry fruit–forward, but saved from boredom by lots of gruff tannins and good acidity. Straightforward; not complex, but tasty.
From one of the older estates in Austria, and made using biodynamic principles in the region of Wachau on the banks of the Danube, this is an impressive Grüner. The nose shows spiced pear, guava, ripe apple and citrus to go with a pinch of spice. It is quite concentrated and rich and textured on the palate with pear, smoke, grapefruit, spice and a touch of honey. Vivid acidity gives the wine lift through the finish.
