The high, steep 45-degree slopes ensure the grapes are sun drenched by day yet well cooled by night. Seductively fragrant aromas of violets and wild berries. Decadently rich flavours of smoky, peppery meat and dense dark berries are well balanced by bright acidity and supple tannins. The blockbuster finish unveils chocolate and vanilla notes. Heartwarming with a hearty winter stew.
If you're a Gewürztraminer fan, don't miss this one. Golden straw in colour with a spicy, lychee and rose-petal nose, it’s medium- to full-bodied, off-dry, with sweetish melon and lychee flavours and lively, balancing acidity. Great with Asian cuisine or smoked salmon.
Dark yellow, orange reflections. Fresh nose of hops and grapefruit. Same flavours in the mouth, good balance with the right dose of bitterness to keep it refreshing.
A bready, rich lager crafted with all of the ingredients grown west of the 100th Meridian, the beginning of the great plains. Pours a light copper with a bright white head. On the nose, delicate floral hop and toasty malts; caramel and bread flavours on the palate, with a beautiful a soft floral hop finish. This all-organic brew is perfect with roasted chicken topped with barbecue sauce, or grilled root vegetables.
Rodney Strong was the first to plant Chardonnay in Sonoma's Chalk Hills in 1965, an area that became its own AVA in 1983. The volcanic, chalky, white ash soils, unique to the area, can be seen in the stream of fine minerality throughout this fuller white. I'd love to see less wood here, so the site and soils really rings. As stands now, barrel ferment (partial new) and wood toast leads the creamy palate, with the yellow apple, pear, nougat and lemon curd finishing this off with a trailing spiciness. Less is more, please.
Clear, pale-to-medium garnet, starting to brown. Medium-intensity nose of violets and raspberry with a bit of wood spice from oak-aging. Simple flavours of red berries; light-bodied with good balance and a long finish. Drink now.
Aromas of dark-roasted coffee and Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut Bar mark the nose of this milk stout from Ottawa’s Kichesippi Beer Company. The sip begins with dark chocolate moving to a sweet, creamy centre before finishing dry and roasty. The lush, creamy mouthfeel makes it a perfect pairing with dessert instead of coffee.
