Simple, with some light cherry and plum flavours, a touch of espresso and a rather short finish. Neither offensive nor compelling.
Classic varietal aromas of rose petal and seductive floral and ginger notes precede a luscious, layered and perfumed palate of ginger and orange blossom with a hint of lingering spice in the finish.
Grassy green fruit and aromatic intensity, together with a hint of mineral. Fresh grapefruit and tropical fruit flavours with refreshingly clean acidity.
This is the white matcher to Karlo’s successful red fortified wine that goes by the same name. It’s made with estate-grown Frontenac Blanc and Gewürz. The nose shows lychee, apricot, marmalade, cloves and hazelnuts. It’s ripe and sweet on the palate with flavours of mango, honey, layers of spice, grapefruit concentrate, nutmeg, toffee and some heat on the back of the palate. There’s a lot going on with this unique fortified white.
This new general-list (LCBO) CNP is an absolute steal for under $30. High octane (15.5%), there is plum, kirsch, raspberry, black pepper, anise, lavender, smoked meat and earth to be found both on the nose and palate. There is a rich texture, great persistency and ripe tannins. Pair with barbecued dry-rubbed ribs or grilled lamb chops. Drink over the next 5 years.
Sourced exclusively from the Finca Timonares estate in the heart of Almansa, this is an unoaked wine, made from a single grape variety: Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet). It shows enticingly ripe fleshy and spicy red fruit with velvety soft tannins, balanced acidity and a rounded, well-integrated finish.
The combination of 60-year-old-vines and the warmth of the 2015 vintage have created a Pinot Noir with punch. Cherry, raspberry, strawberry, undergrowth, spice and hints of vanilla are in play. Try with duck rillettes or terrines.
