Blackcurrant scent figures prominently on the nose with secondary notes of earthy plum and green herb. Generously ripe dark fruit in the mouth shows some sweet blackberry character with rounded, lightly firm tannins, sound overall balance and a touch of dark chocolate. Steady, reliable value.
This Pinot Grigio is priced right. It delivers some white peach, earth, lemon and spice. Light-bodied with sound acidity and a linear structure. Fried seafood, please.
Barbera d’Alba is one of the most underrated Italian wines. Deep ruby colour with cherry, plum and wood spice on the nose, wine is medium-bodied dry and savoury with a sour cherry flavour. Mellow tannins, well balanced with fresh acidity. Good value.
A wine that will appeal to those who loves soft and succulent reds. Bramble fruit, spice, raisins, black tea and tobacco are layered on soft tannins. There is a slight sweetness, but this is Zin, so not a problem at all. Great length and ready to drink.
Elegant, layered and fresh with bright cherry, earth, savoury, supple tannins and lasting finish. The Cuvée is blended from a few barrels that stood out to winemaker Bill Pierson. Remarkable how this relatively new winery (named 2012 Best New Winery at BC Wine Awards) is already making outstanding wines. At this price, the wine also dispels the myth that Canadian wines don’t provide good value.
Dense purple in colour (that speaks to a warm year); spicy, cedary nose of red berries and vanilla oak; medium-bodied, dry, juicy red and blackcurrant flavours held in check by a firm tannic structure.
Golden colour with a light, frothy head, this one shows aromatic, piquant herbal hoppy scents with nutty malt aroma. Rounded with medium weight, showing spicy, nutty and citrus flavours, finishing dry and astringently bitter.
