If you like full-bodied rich red wines then you’ll love this one. Dense purple in colour, the wine has a bouquet of blackcurrants with a note of wild herbs. Lots of well-extracted ripe fruit here with a firm tannic finish.
The small, hillside Ca’ Bertoldi vineyard has chalk and volcanic soil, lending the wine some intense minerality. Generous aromas of ripe berries and oaky spice. Very rich and full-bodied on the palate, with powerful tannins and lingering tar and mineral. Will develop for another 10 years.
Sourced from 32 year old vines in the winery’s Okanagan Falls estate vineyard, picked according to acidity levels rather than brix. Excellent varietal character denoted by up front tropical and citrus notes before a vibrant, mouth filling palate wrapped in lively, juicy acidity with flavours of peach, pineapple with a hint of minerality through a lengthy close.
This lighter style harkens to Burgundy with its floral nose, red berry flavour, subtle spice, earthy nuances and bright herbal notes from start to finish. Exhibits acidity, fruit and tannin in remarkable harmony, resulting in delicate-yet-mouth-filling sips and a long, satisfying finish. Poised for duck dishes.
Shows red fruit with floral scents, together with a touch of earthy barnyard on the nose. Generous strawberry comes forward on the palate with good weight and balance. Red currant and blackcurrant flavours kick in on the spicy finish. A complex wine drinking well now but can develop further.
Pale silvery yellow. Typical and vigorous nose of apple, banana, peach and spice. Granny Smith apple on the palate, lots of fruit extract balanced by nice acidity. In a different class from the average wine-lake Soave.
This is a huge mouthful of rich dark plum, blackberry, plush chewy tannins and a hit of liquorice on the back palate. Powerful and enormously concentrated, it seems almost a meal in itself but will pair best with robust, full-flavoured braised red meat dishes.
