Developed deep red fruit with raspberry and supporting peppery spice shifting to concentrated dark berry and black chocolate themes on the palate. Shows a touch of liquorice on the slightly bitter tannic finish. Will be better with 2 to 3 years additional aging.
This wine is unofficially known as the “Bistro” Chardonnay and is only sold at restaurants. Barrel-fermented and aged for 12 months, the wine exudes ripe pear, apple, peach, honey, spice, white flower, vanilla, cream and toast. It is medium-bodied with excellent length and refreshing acidity. Lobster ravioli in a beurre noisette sauce or filet of halibut are well suited to this wine.
Uerige is tantalizing: the assertion of aroma and flavour is such that it is hard to tell whether everything occurs sequentially or concurrently. The immediate impression is of earth and laurel, but the texture is reminiscent of light grade maple sap. The malt runs from honey to molasses to roast, but the expression is ephemeral. The only real constant is the bitterness, which inhabits a space between black pepper and endive. Challenging but rewarding.
This Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend spent 32 months on the lees. It shows just a tinge of pink, with elegant floral scents and red berry fruit, persistent fine mousse, delicate berry and green apple fruit in the mouth with a delicate creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity.
Dry, this Riesling displays moderate aromas of lime, lemon, mineral and peach. It is light and airy on the palate with fresh acidity, making it food-friendly. Pair with grilled sausages or a mustard-and-herb-crusted rack of pork.
Very pale pink in colour, this blend of mostly Muscat varieties has a delightfully fresh nose of lime, peach, mango, apricot and marmalade. It’s lightly effervescent and subtly sweet on the palate with peaches, citrus zest, tropical fruits and lime juice balanced out by racy and vibrant acidity. Only 6.5% alcohol.
Made with grapes from the oldest planting of the variety on Vancouver Island; shows some herbal aromas before a lush and quite viscous palate, with pink grapefruit and kiwi notes against a stony background and a lingering, fresh finish.
