Tobacco, cassis, spice, violets, cherry and raspberry are all found in the 100% Cabernet Franc wine. Mid-weight, it is accessible, with soft tannins rounding out the finish. Pair with a grilled veal chop marinated in oregano and olive oil.
Cured meats, smoked branch, dark cherry and peppery notes throughout this youthful and approachable Barbera from Asti. Renato Ratti also bottles a Battaglioni DOC from Alba, which would be fun to taste alongside (for geeks like me). This is a plush and round black-fruited wine, destemmed and crushed, with soft tannins, cranberry brightness and primary black fruit, coming from time in stainless before 1 year in older oak barrel. A medicinal-cherry line carries throughout. Ready to drink now with grilled ribs or wild mushroom-laden braised chicken thighs.
Full body, fresh acid and firm tannins with opulent notes of plum, cassis, coco and vanilla support well the slightly elevated alcohol of 14%. A testament that it is still possible to find a well-made Bordeaux that offers typicity under 50$. A delicious pick for lamb lovers.
Fresh nose with hints of salt, herbs and white flowers. Light body, lots of freshness thanks to the vivid acidity. A refreshing glass that will drink nicely with oysters or before them.
Dense purple-ruby in colour with a nose of sandalwood and strawberry purée. Medium-bodied, dry, elegant and beautifully balanced with firmly structured red plum flavour that lingers.
Wild-fermented, 100% Sangiovese made from organic grapes with a nose of cassis, currants, cherry jam, oak spice and plums. It is loaded with dark and juicy fruits on the palate with firm, structured tannins, depth, concentration and a certain earthy feel on the finish.
You won't find a better Gewürz at this price: pale straw colour with a spicy, lychee and rose-petal nose; richly extracted fruit, lovely mouthfeel. A pleasure to drink.
