On the nose, plum, black cherry with a touch of bell pepper, clove and dried herb. Black cherry is more dominant in the mouth, with dark chocolate smoothness, balanced acidity and tannic grip. With its satisfyingly dry finish, this is a wine to pair with red meats, mixed grills in the Portuguese style and hard, ripened cheeses.
Here is a solid all-purpose Napa Cab that won’t break the bank. Scents of blackberries, cassis, violets, earth, cocoa and tobacco smoke are built on a medium-bodied frame. There is very good length, with tannins present, but they are not obtrusive. Buy a couple of bottles for the BBQ season.
Medium-deep gold with plenty of bubbles. Concentrated, grapey nose with green apple and orange overtones. Rich ripe apple accented with red berry flavours on the palate, with a touch of sweetness. Drink up.
Cherry red. Fine nose of small red berries, a little spice from the oak and notes of fruit stones. Lively acidity in the attack; the fruity core is a tad warm on the tongue but without any burning sensation, even in the long finish. Try it on a grilled salmon steak or a hamburger.
This Pinot is more Beaune in style, due to the softer style and red berry-fruit qualities: cherries and raspberries. Add the flowers, cocoa, plums, very good length and supple tannins, and what you have is a real flatterer of a wine.
Straw-coloured with an arresting nose of honey and peaches. Creamy on the palate; elegant, with tropical fruit flavours nicely balanced with citrus acidity.
Pinot Noir performs well in this hilly region south of the Po River, whether in sparkling, red or even as this white wine. Attractive feint cherry and herb scents, along with this style’s trademark firm acidity, fresh white raspberry and cinnamon flavours and very clean finish. Ceviche would pair well.
