What a stunner! A gorgeous dessert wine with deep amber hues and a complex nose of candied tropical fruits, mango, marzipan, figs, citrus peel, honeycomb and sweet spices. It comes at you in waves on the palate with maraschino cherry, toasted almond, raisins, honey, crème brûlée, sweet wood spices and creamy caramel. It’s layered and textured and has a finish that lasts and lasts. Enthralling comes to mind. Enjoy with crème brûlée.
Ruby purple. Beautiful nose of red fruits; deep, noticeable oak. Still young, it will gain in complexity over time. Quite firm in the mouth, but full of juicy extract; nicely balanced. Hard to resist already, it will improve further.
Nice fruity nose, inviting, even charming with complexity. Great acidity, lots of freshness and fruity presence; overall very nice. Finish is clean with yet more freshness. Made using the same method as Champagne, it is as good as many.
Now, this is a fun little Dolcetto all dressed up in a clever package. The nose shows cherries, plums, kirsch, wild berries and savoury spices and herbs. All those fruits come together nicely on the palate with pepper and spices chiming in. Fun wine that would go well with veal parmigiana.
This is a Cabernet/Merlot blend that offers up rich and ripe red fruits, currants, aromatic wood spice, vanilla and earth on the nose. It is dense and layered with highly extracted dark berries, liquorice, clove/cinnamon spice and meaty fruits all built on a firm foundation. This is one fabulous red with decades of aging potential. Serve with barbecued ribs or roasted meats.
This was just being released in Ontario at the time of this writing, so if you can find any anywhere, this is the Italian buy of the year. An exquisite blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc with intense and complex aromas blackberries, plums, cherries, cigar box, toasted vanilla and oak, cocoa, eucalyptus and spice. It’s full bodied and concentrated on the palate yet is perfectly balanced between its core of extracted black and red berry fruits, spice and silky tannins. It has grip and power in the mouth and the flavours linger on the finish.
Dark ruby. Nose is discreet at this stage, mostly ripe black fruits; oak is present but not overdone or imposing. Full-bodied, the middle palate fills the mouth with its finely grained tannins wrapped in generous fruity and oak extracts. It will improve over the next 10 to 12 years.
