What makes this wine so attractive is the tension between the honeyed grapefruit flavour and the racy lemon-lime acidity. Great balance, giving great length on the palate. Already developing petrol notes on the nose.
From two clones of 27-year-old vines, aromas of cassis, mulberry and spice notes open on the mid palate to a vibrant, juicy freshness, driven by balanced acidity and perfectly textured thanks to time spent in neutral oak for a little extra heft, an impressive expression of purity, power and elegance.
This is still an extremely youthful wine, which is still closed. Currently, there is cassis, blueberry, herbs, tar, violets and spice built on a medium-bodied frame. The long finish is dominated by the tannins right now, so hold until 2014 and then drink until 2020.
Pale golden colour. White and yellow tropical fruits with a fair amount of oak. The fine acidity is contrasted by the fatty texture in the rich mid-palate. There is a slightly vegetal note for extra freshness. It is rare to find such generosity and aging potential (4 to 5) years) at this price level.
Corvina is better known when typically blended with Rondinella and Molinara to make Valpolicella. In this single-grape version, it reveals appetizing spicy plum and cherry scents, with slightly sweet dark plum and bitter cherry flavours, moderate tannins and balanced acidity.
Up front red and black fruit with some meaty and peppery hints introduce a plush but focused palate of raspberry, mulberry, mocha and anise, balanced by well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity that plays through the finish.
This is old-time California Chardonnay in spades. Yellow straw in colour with a spicy, cedary, toasty, tropical-fruit bouquet; full-bodied, sweet and spicy mango and pineapple flavours that fill the mouth, finishing on toasty oak notes. Good length.
