Mellow, buttery, ripe citrus and spicy scents with similarly mellow lemon citrus, butterscotch and spicy oak in the mouth. Rich character is balanced by refreshing acidity.
Slow brewed using Urakasumi’s specially cultivated distillers’ yeast, this is a rich, intense, full-bodied junmai best served very slightly chilled or at room temperature. Forward grain, green apple, green melon, pear and lemon zest aromatics. Ripe, viscous, elegant and balanced with crisp apple flavours enhanced by some savoury, earthy/nutty notes. Long, crisp finish.
They don’t get much better than this from the Stags’ Leap District. Dense purple-black colour, which speaks to the concentration of fruit on the nose and on the palate. Spicy blackberry, blackcurrant and chocolate flavours firmly structured with supple tannins. Needs time in bottle, 3 to 5 years.
Notwithstanding the self-deprecating name, this one could give a few more illustrious Barolos and Barbarescos a run for their money. Opening with good varietal scents of violets, redcurrant, a touch of herb and a pinch of spice, the wine evolves into surprisingly rounded, spice-accented red-fruit flavours, finishing with a touch of dark chocolate and characteristic firm, dry tannic grip.
Moray Tawse, the owner of Tawse winery in Vineland, made the cover of Britain's prestigious Decanter Magazine with his Tawse Estate Chardonnay 2011. Moray purchased the old Thomas & Vaughan winery in Beamsville in 2009 and renamed it Redstone. This wine is light straw in colour; it has a spicy pear bouquet with vanilla oak. Medium-bodied, dry and elegant, it's beautifully balanced with great length.
This was one of the highlights of the Meritage category at this year’s Ontario Wine Awards competition. Approximately 30% of the crop was dried, helping to create a medium-bodied red, as well as one of the stars of the generally average red wine vintage of 2011. The bouquet of morello cherry, plum, smoke, violets and cocoa combines with very good length and supple tannins.
Here’s a worthy Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile for your dinner table: this flavourful wine is dense purple in colour with a cedary, spicy nose of plum and blackcurrant with vanilla oak top notes. Medium-bodied and dry, blackcurrant flavours fill the mouth and linger for a long time. Just the wine for roast lamb.
