A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, which exudes grapefruit, passion fruit, nectarine, white peach, white flowers and herbs. Bright on the palate with fine length and a mineral-tinged finale.
Rich and mouth-coating with bright aromas and flavours of candied citrus, fig, dried apricot, orange marmalade and spice; ample acidity to balance the residual sugar and a lingering finish. 100% Zibibbo (Moscato d’Alessandria). Try with a ricotta torta with bits of dark chocolate and a hint of orange zest.
Elegant and bright with plum and cedar, underlying ripe fruit and roses, fine, silky tannins and a wonderful balance of fruit, acid and restraint. Perfect with roasted pig’s head.
Medium ruby-purple. Hints of cherry, raspberry, spices and vanilla fill the nostrils. Medium-bodied, it has a nice fruity taste and a soft mouthfeel, a supple finish of good volume and freshness, even if it is a little warm. This 100% Negroamaro wine drinks well right now.
Quite light in colour and medium weight, this one belies its 14.5% alcohol. Nose is already refined and complex, showing red currant and subtle spice, but the wine needs 3-5 years or more to integrate and soften hard tannins and youthful acidity.
I'm a great fan of Morellino di Scansano, a Sangiovese grown in Maremma on the Tuscan coast, which is lighter in body and more playful than Chianti Classico. This wine is ruby-coloured with a spicy cherry nose; medium-bodied, juicy, dry and elegant.
