From one of the older estates in Austria, and made using biodynamic principles in the region of Wachau on the banks of the Danube, this is an impressive Grüner. The nose shows spiced pear, guava, ripe apple and citrus to go with a pinch of spice. It is quite concentrated and rich and textured on the palate with pear, smoke, grapefruit, spice and a touch of honey. Vivid acidity gives the wine lift through the finish.
Polished medium-gold. Nose of ripe apples with pears and spice. Full-bodied with high acidity. A clean, pure Pinot Blanc, tasting of apples with overtones of banana and honey. Drink now.
A nose of blueberry, black cherry, raspberry jam and currants. This dark berry–driven wine is a nice find from Austria with blueberry/raspberry-jam flavours and bramble-spice notes backed up by good acid and medium tannins. Try with red-meat dishes.
A gorgeous nose of lime, citrus, apple and slate minerality. Grüner is such a lovely grape and this is a perfect example of how good it can be. The palate reveals refreshing and zesty citrus, stone fruit, zippy acidity and a vein of minerality that prances through the finish. Enjoy with grilled white fish.
Here is a superb Grüner that offers great depth and ripeness. Light yellow in colour, the aromatic nose of pineapples, honey, caramel, pepper and apples are built on a full-bodied frame. The finish is very long with mouth-watering acidity, but without any sense of heaviness. Drink it over the next 10 years.
For under $15, this is a no brainer, as well as a being a great introduction into the world of the ‘Groovy Grape’. It is quite youthful, showing peach, pepper, honey and minerals, and comes light bodied and flavourful.
Here is a great introduction to the world of Grüner that will not break the bank. It is light yellow with a green tinge, and the bouquet of honey, white pepper, grapefruit, flowers and green pepper meet up with a spicy and somewhat oily palate. Nonetheless, there is still enough acidity to backstop the finale.
