Clear, very deep garnet. Nose of plums and forest floor with spices and a hint of mint. On the palate it is medium-bodied, fruity and soft, with blackberry and cherry flavours, all elements being in good balance. Could be kept another year.
Ripe pear, peach and melon carry this friendly and fuller Western Cape white. White florals, honeysuckle and fine spice take over on the waxy palate, one that carries herbs, lanolin and a lick of lees and ends with a fine nutmeg spicing and nutty bitterness. Amazing value.
A fascinating blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Sémillon. Straw-coloured with a greenish tint, it offers a concentrated nose of mango and pineapple; on the palate it’s medium-bodied, dry, projecting grapefruit and peach flavours with a grassy note along with mouthwatering acidity; well-balanced.
From the “Heaven on Earth” region comes this Chardonnay with a good dose of oak in the form of vanilla, caramel and spice which envelopes the tropical fruit, mineral, honey and peach qualities. Lingers and there is a lifted finale which bodes well for food-friendliness.
Sweet raspberry jam, cherry and cinnamon bark pervade this simple, medium-bodied red. A smooth blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Ruby Cabernet, this carries enough freshness to keep the super ripe fruit from cloying. Finishes with a black pepper kick.
Cabernet Sauvignon from the Groenekloof ward in the Darling area goes into this smooth, supple, medium-bodied red. 1 year in a mix of French oak (various sizes and ages) and stainless steel has provided thin, slightly sticky tannins while preserving freshness. The silken palate carries branch, leather, fresh cherry and black raspberry to a finely rasped peppercorn, bitter-espresso finish.
Dark and wild blackcurrant, black cherry and tobacco are framed with finely structured tannins in this medium-bodied, smoothed red. Light smoke and black pepper carry through the finish. Ideal now with some age under its belt. Great value.
