Medium-deep gold. Fairly strong aromas of lime, pear drops and mint. On the palate it is slightly pétillant and shows high acidity with lemon and lime flavours and some citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Drink now.
Deep garnet. Out-of-the-glass nose of cassis, cherry and vanilla. Medium body. Fresh cherry flavours on the palate, nicely balanced with soft tannins. Unpretentious, but delicious. Good value. At its best now.
Dense purple-black in colour with a lively bouquet of blackcurrant and mulberry; medium to full-bodied, rich and spicy sweet blackcurrant and plum flavours.
A foot-trodden Port of distinction! Opaque purple in colour with a slightly medicinal, blackberry nose with oak spice; full-bodied, sweet and intense, grapey, blackberry flavour, firmly structured. Would reward with 3-4 years cellaring to resolve the tannins.
Bursting flavours of lime peel, laurel leaves and white grapefruit with a hint of lavender. Tangy acidity with salty notes on the finish. This Loureiro becomes even more alive when enjoyed with steamed clams or grilled sea bream splashed with a touch of lemon and olive oil. For those who are fans of Thai or Vietnamese food, this wine will work like a charm. What an outstanding value!
The label says it is the number 1 selling Vinho Verde in the world. This classically cheap and cheerful impoverished student wine is deservedly successful and still fun now that I am grown up. Clear pale gold with some fizz. Medium nose of apple, ripe banana, pineapple and a bit of lemon. Light-bodied and low in alcohol at 9.5%, its tart apple and lemon flavours make it a refreshing summer wine or a good accompaniment to cold cuts or pork roasted with sage and garlic. Drink immediately on arrival at home.
