Review Summary:
Dense, herbal and leathery, Lagrein finds its true home in the mountainous Alto Adige region of Northern Italy. 5 generations of the Lageder family have been farming grapes here, so you have to trust they know what works. With vines ranging from 15 to 50 years old, and a 17-month rest in concrete, it's a promising glimpse. Like this — a richer red, freshened with mountain air, and built around dusky mulberry, herbal, black raspberry and red currants with a firm, leathery structure and furry tannins. Thorny florals and cinnamon bark spicing linger on the finish.
