Exclusive 2009 Bordeaux Futures
Opimian, Canada’s largest wine club, is offering its members a selection of 8 exclusive 2009 Bordeaux Wine Futures. The wine world is buzzing about the 2009 Bordeaux Futures – a vintage year that has been dubbed the best of the decade. Opimian has worked closely with their long-standing Bordeaux suppliers and their Master of Wine to secure a collection of exclusive wines. To celebrate the success of the Canadian Olympians this past winter, Opimian has dedicated one of its selections – La Récolte d’Or, Dediée aux Olympiens du Canada – to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic team.
Master of Wine Kenneth Christie, Opimian’s wine consultant, describes this Merlot as a “rich, complex wine [that] will develop well over many years, while continuing to provide evidence as to why this is such an exceptional vintage.” Bordeaux Futures “En Primeur” is the French wide trade term for wine which is sold as a Future, prior to bottling and for delivery at a future date. For many wines the “En Primeur” price is expected to be the best price. By purchasing in this way, buyers can be assured of the wine’s provenance, direct from the winery, where it will have been stored in perfect conditions. Bordeaux wines are usually offered “En Primeur” in the spring and summer following the vintage.
Opimian includes 20,000 members from coast to coast. It operates as a non-profit wine purchasing cooperative, where all members benefit from its nationwide purchasing power regardless of their province of residence. Opimian offers Canadians access to wines that are exclusive to members (not available through any of the provincial liquor boards), a broad spectrum of wine education, including a subscription to Tidings Magazine.
