Repurposing: Dress Up your Dresser
The dresser is one piece of furniture with loads of potential. Next time you find yourself with an extra one – even if it’s because you found it at a garage sale – try one of these DIY repurposing projects.
Freshen Up
Freshen up the look by sanding it down and repainting. Distressing, staining or texturing will give it a bit of edge. For a more open concept look, remove all the drawers and use baskets instead.
Be a little Vain
You can never have enough bathroom storage nor mirrors in a home. Repaint your dresser, add a ceramic or tile countertop and push it against the wall with a matching antique mirror to create a secondary vanity.
No Man is an Island
But a dresser can be. All it needs is a fresh coat of paint, an easy-to-clean coating on the top and a paper towel holder on the side. Then you too could have a brand new island for your kitchen.
Take a Seat
Remove the legs of your dresser, sand down the bottom and adhere floor protectors to the corners. Then flip it back over and cover with pillows. Presto boom – a snazzy new bench complete with storage.
A Quiet Place to Work
Longer, low dressers can be converted into chic desks. Remove the wider drawers and their framework, then sand and slap on a fresh coat of paint. Use the narrower drawers for storage.
Enjoy the Show
Remove the back paneling and the top row of drawers for a unique (and affordable) entertainment unit. DVD players, gaming consoles and surround sound units fit well and wires are hidden behind the unit.
