5 Canadian chocolatiers making bitter & sweet magic

Choklat

Calgary, Alberta

Choklat is a special place. It’s one of the only chocolatiers that creates custom truffles. And that is fantastic. You walk in, pick what you want in the middle of your truffle, select your delicious exterior and then point out your extras (candies on a candy, anyone?).

They also have single-origin dark or milk chocolate bars, created in fair-trade bean-to-bar style by Brad Churchill, owner and creator of Choklat, and his team. They source their beans from five regions: three in Venezuela, one in Mexico and one in Brazil. They don’t blend their beans, so each bar expresses the exact flavour and personality of the beans from which they’re made.

In additional to made-to-order truffles and single-origin chocolate bars, they have Choklat Bark (“ugly but tastes good”), roasted cocoa nibs, fresh baked goods, fine flavour cocoa beans and amazing drinking choklat. It’s your one-stop shop for all things chocolaty in Calgary.

You CAN order their products online. Unfortunately, there is a fairly hefty price-tag associated with shipping outside of Calgary – from the store to Montreal, for example, was $56 for just the shipping.
