The Original Kōloa Kaua’i Coconut

Summer is just around the corner. Is there any flavour or smell that better embodies the essence of summer than coconut? If you’re looking for a new summer spirit, look no further than The Original Kōloa Kaua’i Coconut rum.

Made by the Kōloa Rum Company in Kaua’i, Hawaii, this 80-proof rum is distilled with actual coconut flesh to create summer in a bottle. The Original Kōloa Kaua’i Coconut rum smells like coconuts, sunscreen, beaches and summer; just sniffing it transports you to someplace warm. It also has that sharp, rum tang at the end of the nose, reminding you that it is, in fact, a spirit.

On the palate, there’s more rum than coconut. In fact, there’s really only a hint of coconut on the finish. It’s like, if you put the rum in a coconut, swirled it around and poured it in a glass. As far as a white rum goes, The Original Kōloa Kaua’i Coconut rum is on the sweet end of things, but it gives you enough of that burning edge to balance it out. Very drinkable by itself, this is definitely a sipping rum. It also works really well in cocktails. Try Kōloa Rum Company’s Coconut Pineapple Daiquiri recipe below.

Kōloa Rum Company is now in its 10th year creating single-batch Hawai`ian rum and ready-to-drink cocktails at its distillery in Kaua`i. The brand is committed to using local cane sugar and cane juice in their rums, rather than the molasses used by other rum producers. They even grow their own cane, partnering with local farmers and landowners to use land that has previously been unsuitable for agriculture.
