Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro
This is a big leap forward for the Australian company, Blackmagic Design. Prior to the Mini series, their Ursa cameras mostly focused on somewhat large studio cameras, admittedly with cinematic great quality. The URSA Mini Pro takes their camera tech to the next level, giving users high end digital film quality, ergonomic design and broadcasting features.
Lightweight, the URSA Mini Pro is comfortable to use, even all day if you must (though you should take breaks, mostly because breaks are always a good idea). The magnesium alloy build is evenly weighted as well. The controls are all on the side of the camera, so you can adjust the settings by feel; changes happen quickly, so you don’t miss any of the action. Set up is quick as well, due to Blackmagic’s operating software — one of the simplest out there. The Mini Pro also sports interchangeable lens mounts — EF photographic lenses or PL and B4 lenses — perfect for production companies not interested in investing in new glass. The image quality, broadcast features and ergonomic controls make this ideal for indie films, television shows and commercials, as well as live production — this is where the camera really shines.
You can do a lot with this little beast. Built-in ND filters with IR compensation allow you to reduce or increase the amount of light the camera picks up – choose from 2, 4 and 6 stops. Speaking of colour, the super wide colour gamut and DaVinci colour science gives images that would be at home in the theatre. It features more than the Ultra HD 4.6K resolution plus 15 stops of dynamic range; and records up to 60fps with dual C-Fast 2.0 recorders onto a dual C-Fast UHS-II SD card.
You can monitor your video through the optional viewfinder or on the built-in 4” LCD touch-screen display (which also shows you critical shooting information). Finally, it has all the professional connections you could want: 12G-SDI, XLR audio, built-in high quality microphone and more.
