Soft, ripe and expressive on the broad, waxy palate, with honey, ripe melon, yellow apple, heady florals and ripe nectarine, cut with a herbal and nutty bitterness on the finish. Round and warm, with moderate acidity that lags a little behind the potency of the fruit. Quite expressive, in a lackadaisical style.
This popular Brut non-vintage is a blend of 60% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier and is made in the Méthode Classique style. It’s fresh and citrusy on the nose with added green apple and biscuit notes. It’s zesty and lifted on the palate with a firm, lively mousse and apple, lemon and toasty brioche notes.
95% Merlot with 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Syrah. Ruby colour with a mature rim; cedary, wood spice on the nose with strawberry and raspberry-note aromas and a light floral note; medium-bodied, full on the palate with blackberry and black-cherry flavours and a tannic lift on the finish. Good mouthfeel. St Émilion in style.
Brothers Dustin and Brayden Jones operate this cult brewery tucked away in Toronto’s hip Lansdowne neighbourhood. Pouring a mix of Brett-fermented sours with fruit additions and solid IPAs on an ever-changing draught list, it’s a destination worth checking out. Don’t miss this pale ale, bursting with mango and pineapple notes from amarillo and citra hops with a slightly sweet, lightly tart grainy finish.
The 2016 version of this natural, skin-fermented Vidal is the best one yet. The nose shows orangy-tangerine and citrus notes, but the true beauty is on the palate, a zesty, tangy citrus bomb with orange peel on a textured frame. The tannins are more evident in this version, providing structure and dimension that all leads to a long, lingering finish. Strange and beautiful.
A true rarity from often unforgiving Vancouver island, these 15-year-old vines are sited on a hot spot on rocky soils. Impressive red and black fruit with toasty notes up front precede a luscious, well rounded palate supported by approachable, well integrated tannins with lingering vanilla and floral notes to close.
Grown in the cool foothills of the Dolomites, this is an elegant, aromatic wine offering fresh yellow and green fruit scents, yielding to lively green apple and pear flavours, with mineral and refreshingly crisp acidity in the mouth.
